Gorillidan Crutch

This is yet another Spark Post off something over at Aspect of the Hare today... and its not even a regular post! No, its something from the comments section on this post. And I couldn't agree with Pike more. I tested out a gorilla for three levels. Its just not to my liking, I felt that it was actually too easy to play.

I mean the AoE grind is fun, I will admit that... but um, that's why I have a paladin. No joke. Di is an AoE Prot Paladin because I like to drag her out and go AoE things. It also is a nice break from dealing with three hard hitting things at once on a cat because the hunter accidentally got in a little over her head - it happens more frequently than you'd think with Tzia and Ruka.

When that happens I have to carefully de-tangle the mess before the fourth and fifth adds jump in. Ruka can handle three, even four if we manage to lock it down in a trap, but five will end up getting the kitty killed even if we've dropped three already. I know that's her limit if I don't have a heal ticking on her from the start... and pulls like the one I describe are not planned a lot of the time, usually because I misjudged the social aggro radius of the mobs and got more than what I wanted.

Threat management without killing pet... its something every hunter learns and at times hunters will really push the limits and see just how far one pet can go before you know you are at your skill breaking point. And it can be different for each pet. Back before boars lost the ability to hold threat against a kara geared 70 hunter, I could go up to seven or eight if I really pushed it on the pig. But I built that and learned it over time.

Those with gorillas throw the pet at seven or eight to start off, and it works. It works really, really well. However, I fear we may see so many new hunters using a crutch called gorilladin that when it comes time to try and raid and the like they will have a harder time understanding aggro management. Aggro management from a pet that really can dish out a ton of threat versus a tank who may not be able to generate as much (for reasons of bad rotation, or just not understanding his/her role very well yet) will get the hunter in trouble.

In my experience, it was damn near impossible to pull mobs off the gorilla after a little bit of aggro was gained. This is not the case in longer fights in raids or bad pulls in instances where the hunter jumps up the meter in leaps and bounds and is forced to FD just to keep from yanking the boss or heavy hitting trash onto them. I learned that very early on when I was working with a cat. Sometimes I would get ahead of Ruka or Lilith and I would have to scale back a bit to keep it from coming to me. I quickly learned the same thing in most groups if I had a tank that couldn't quite maintain what the pet could for aggro while I was soloing.

Some hunters in the past, prior to the introduction of gorillidans didn't learn that concept. I remember arguing with one hunter that supposedly had a 70 warrior, who said that a pet or a hunter could not pull threat off a tank. I almost died laughing. I flat out told him his hunters were bad, sucked at their jobs, and if they couldn't pull threat off a tank, they weren't playing right. Hunters definitely can pull threat. A large chunk of the time we are working to maintain steady DPS without pulling aggro.

Gorillas are hard to pull aggro off. Most tanks aren't. If new hunters never really learn that, things could get very messy very quickly. And since hunters already deal with a giant mess called huntard, I can see a few hunters screwing up royally (who am I kidding - a lot of hunters) which would make it harder on the rest of us to actually be accepted in groups, and we already have a hard enough time as it is.

Yet Another Hunter

I got bored last night and rolled another horde hunter on another server. I used my regular name. I'm an Orc over on Thorium Brotherhood (US). I decided to roll a character over there to play along with some great people I met while playing Pirates of the Burning Sea. That, and its the only PA WoW Guild left, I do believe.

Last night, while I was trying to figure out which pet I wanted (went with an orange tiger finally) and am now over in the Ghostlands to try and catch up to a guildie... or at least get a little ahead, since I have to work tonight and will lose three hours of leveling time.

I will let everyone know once I've figured out a name for the pet. Right now all I know is its male. We shall see... and I will have a story written for her, as Thorium Brotherhood is an RP realm.

Screens from 'Round Azeroth & Beyond

So, I'm betting some of you are wondering what I've been up to? Well, on Deathwing, The Guy and I are playing our hunters... we got to 71, and I've got my leatherworking up to 395. No gear yet to replace my current stuff, though The Guy has replaced a few things, with stuff I've crafted for him and some quest rewards. We've also been playing our new Death Knights. I've got a few things on the AH at the moment, one thing I severely under priced by mistake - hey, I'll still make money off it, I'm just undercutting the current market by about oh... 30g. Oops!

And speaking of Leatherworking and its partner craft, Skinning... I found this weirder than weird:

The Guy says I need a Skinning Chisel... I think I need a chain saw!

Our pets briefly glitched... more amusing for me than for him, but it proves just how long he's had that freaking pig of his! He's had that pet since level 10, and hasn't gotten a different one except briefly to try out abilities. He loves his lil piggy!

Locstock & Barrel

My glitch proved to be more amusing. Since I happened to have my core hound, Lethe, out at the time.

Lethe is a bit upset!

We also rolled two Death Knights - Hey, I try out new content just like every one else... why do you think I have a 65 paladin? ^_^ Anyways, my DK on Deathwing is name Dionea after my Paladin over on Quel'dorei. Same hairstyle and everything. I have re-spec'd three times now. Was originally Blood, then went Unholy, then went back to Blood. While I was leveling her through the starter quests to teach me how to be a Death Knight, I ran into something that I though rather amusing.

Disturbing but Cute

I took this screen shot while The Guy and I were on our DKs. We were both Unholy at the time.

The Ghoul Construction Crew

While playing DK we learned we are extremely over-powered when facing other classes or just alliance that don't know what the heck to make of us yet. Together we took out three other DKs that tried to jump us. Then we had another DK come back and die to us after he'd killed me and The Guy made me a Ghoul. He didn't realize it until 2 minutes later and I fell over dead!

I killed a 54 hunter as blood as a fresh out of the necropolis 58. Poor dwarf Disengaged himself right into a corner! I pulled him into me and just went to town. Got my honorable kill achievement, and besides, he was killing the Timbermaw... I kinda needed to turn in two quests at the time. He killed my quest turn in person. Any time anybody does that? They die.

My guy got his own happy kill moment against a level 70 resto shaman. We were near Thrallmar, and Mr. Shaman tried to kill us... after all the idiot chat we saw in Hellfire and the DK starting zone, I'm not surprised that the Shaman thought all DKs were being played by either Power Levelers or absolute idiots that just bought their account off another player. Anyways, Shammy fired a frost shock at level 58 Orc DK. He ran for the Thrallmar Mage Squad. He made it and I just watched those mages pour out onto Mr. Shaman, who tried to get into Ghost Wolf to run away... he just barely got out of the AoE range... The Guy yanked him back into it, for the kill, with Death Grip... have I mentioned I love that particular ability yet? Give a whole new meaning to pulling... does it not? ^_^

That kill also got me my /hug achievement for Make Love Not Warcraft. All in all? A productive weekend I would think. And? I'm having a ton of fun.

My Hunter Theme Song

This took me three years + to find. I started listening to Inkubus Sukkubus tonight... hey, tomorrow is Halloween! So it was good to start with them tonight, and get me in the mood for trick-or-treaters, which I will unfortunately miss out on as I have to work from 5-8 pm tomorrow, ah well, maybe next year?

But anyways, Hunter theme song... specifically MY theme song.

The Beast in Us All

We've got the fever of all of the night
We've got the pain of the dark side of love
We've got the fire that burns and more
We've got the beast in us all

We've got the storm rising high in the sky
We've got the lightning and the hurricane
We've got the thunder and the devil's own rain
We've got the beast in us all

We've got the power that we can't control
It's in our genes, body, and soul
Nations rise and nations fall
We've got the beast in us all

We've got the kiss of the holy divine
They gave us brains and they gave us the wine
Made us special so that we might shine
We've got the beast in us all

We've got desires that fill us with shame
Everyone of us a mark of pain
We're never free from our animal chains
We've got the beast in us all

We've got the future but it's lost in our past
We've got culture but it's lost in the dance
We've got lust and we call it romance
We've got the beast in us all

We've got our vision but we don't see the truth
We want wisdom but we won't give up you
We've got the beast in all of us
We've got the beast in us all

It describes hunter to me soo well.

"It's in our genes, body, and soul" Every hunter I know that plays this class as a main says its an obsession, something that gets under your skin, into your blood, and into the bone. We identify as hunter first.

"They gave us brains and they gave us the wine / Made us special so that we might shine" The good hunters use their brains while playing, instead of mashing buttons... though the button mashing can be fun, which is why I have a warrior. The good hunters shine in groups. We know how to do it all: trap, control the pet, save the healer, and do our primary job as DPS. We are also a nightmare in battlegrounds... if they don't see us? The other person is soo dead.

"Everyone of us a mark of pain / We're never free from our animal chains" How much flak to we weather as hunters, because people who don't play hunter think our job is easy. I mean "your pet does half your damage for you" is a common statement. Its roughly 35% and we've got more key bindings going than the rest of the classes put together, especially when it comes to PvP. We also are never far from our trusted companions, and hunters mark is painful... for the other guy. ^_^

"We want wisdom but we won't give up you" Common raid complaint amongst hunters. Wisdom, please, Kings, hell yes, but NO SANCTUARY. If the tank sucks that bad... get a new tank for crying out loud. A solid hunter will not pull threat, and if they do, FD wipes it immediately + Misdirection at that point usually swings it back to the tank without too much of a hitch.

Well, that's why I think this song is my hunter theme song... maybe even more than a theme song, maybe an anthem? I'll think about that and get back to you tomorrow.

Oh, Happy Halloween!

Zombies Ugh

The Zombies are driving me completely nuts. I rolled a new hunter (yes I know bad Tzia) but I rolled one alliance side on Drenden to say hi to BRK, which I did, and then the server sucked me in. The newest Tzia is level 17. I'm in Auberdine right now questing away... or at least trying to. Blizzard has Zombie issues. And when I say issues, I mean they royally #&^!ed up.

The Zombies might be okay in a major city, where there are Argent Dawn to kill them; but if you are playing an alt in a lowbie zone without any Argent Dawn...it sucks. Auberdine is frequently a plague zone with nothing BUT zombies there. No guards, no quest givers, nothing but Zombies. And the only way to "fix" that is to abandon the city until they all die & stuff respawns.

First time was funny, by the tenth time that day alone? I want to kill Blizzard. When you see a rolling wall of yellow text saying that Auberdine is under attack and you and nine other people are bitching in general chat about how its impossible to turn in quests, and that Blizzard should have known better (how many jack-asses populate a server? Tons. Now they can all annoy the hell out of their own side) than to allow Zombies in an area where NO ARGENT DAWN EXIST.

I just wanted to get to 20 yesterday and go grab the ghost saber, which I've never had, so I want it! Couldn't do that with the zombie invasion of Auberdine killing off everything there and killing you with-in five seconds of either spawning/landing on the dock/landing at the Flight Master/rezzing.

I'm at about 17 and a half. If I can actually manage to turn in quests in Auberdine and vendor... I should see 20 by the end of tonight. Let's hope the jerks get bored early? Hey, I can hope!

Being Full BM Sans Exotic Pet

Boy is this ever fun! Writing off a blog post by Pike over at Aspect of the Hare yet again! She always has stuff that sparks a larger post from me than will comfortably fit in her comment box. Lucky her and lucky me... I don't have to wrack my brain too much for a post, and she can read this at her own pace. Thanks again Pike!

I can't count the number of BM hunters I see running around right now with a Devilsaur or a Core Hound. Yes, if you look back at my post history I DO have a Core Hound, who is level 65, stabled, and un-named at the moment. I'll figure out a name for it eventually here... yes, I haven't even settled on a gender yet. I might have to drag the pet down to the Wetlands to help me settle it.

Anyways, BM is the uber flavor of the month right now. Everyone wants to get their hands on the Exotic pets and test them as much as possible prior to WotLK coming out. I tested all of this over on the PTR already. I know Devilsaurs are big, bad, and personally kind of aggravating - hence the reason I don't have one in my stable. I wanted a Core Hound, I tested a Core Hound, so I've got a Core Hound in live, and its in my prefered skin of choice (azuremist white).

I took the time to jab at most of the exotics prior to the patch hitting live so I'd have a step up on a number of the hunters that felt the PTR was a waste of time. I know what pets I already want, I like how the new BM feels, it lets me instead settle in and focus on what I want to do, which right now is work on my Netherwing Reputation with a touch of Hallows End fun thrown in.

I'm also having a bit of fun with every idiot mage or warlock that tries to jump me while I'm Rep Farming. They see I've got a cat next to me and since its NOT an Exotic, obviously I'm NOT BM. Then my pretty purple cat goes big, red, and pissed. And there goes Mr. Mage or Ms. Warlock in a mess of blood and screaming. Blood is pretty easy to get out of chain mail... lemon and a gentle rubbing with wool does the trick every time! The screams on the other hand... still working on it!

But, I agree with Pike, BM is not the spec for everyone. Right now my guy is Marks/Survival (0/41/20) and is having a blast with it. I'm settled comfortably into BM, but I went BM for raiding originally and never changed out of it after I stopped because it proved awesome for farming too.

We, as a community, are going to see a lot of BM hunters out there that aren't really sure what they are doing, just have the Exotic because they WANT to have one... give it a few months and we might see a reduction in the number of giant stompy snarly things running around Org or Shatt... or we may just have to beg and plead for a Pet Sound Toggle, or the other 8 classes out there will force blizzard to implement one for us!

But for now? I'm just going to be an unobtrusive BM hunter that happily knows what she is doing - to some extent - and mow down anything that makes the mistake of jumping me while farming. Have fun!

P.S. If anyone knows a reliable formula to get screams out of chain mail... lemme know... :p

Have Bow- Blog Title Revisited

When I started Have Bow, I thought it was a catchy little statement that fit the fact I was huntering quite well. Then I posted about the fact I'd run into a Can Tank, Will Travel blog. I questioned at that time changing the blog title, but never got around to it. The name Have Bow, Will Travel serves this blog well, and is much more appropriate now than it even was then!

At that time I had (QD)Tzia and Yazmin over on Echo Isles. I now have the Way Too Many Hunters list, which I might add is actually lacking a few, since I consider them Alt-alts. Yes, there is Main, Alt, then Alt-alt in my Hierarchy of Characters.

The total list of hunters is up to 8. Yes, eight different hunters on five different realms. Deathwing hosts two, Echo Isles hosts one, Quel'dorei has one, Bal'gun has one, Elune has one (on The Guy's Account from way back when), and Moon Guard has two.

Never thought I'd be spread out over so many realms! But then, the reasons for being on so many are very easy to explain.

Deathwing : The Origin Server.
I rolled the original Tzia on this realm under the name Venari. She started with a bow, an axe, and a nasty temper. The temper has smoothed out... especially after the name shift, no more being called VD... (I blame The Guy's friends for that one... particularly certain rogue). I learned certain fundamental aspects of WoW Hunter on this realm. And this is where my Horde Hunter calls home.

1. Always check your back... never know what's sneaking up on you.

2. Lay a freezing trap behind you... most people are stupid and won't check before walking into it.

3. Your pet is your life-line in hairy situations. Always keep major skills up to date.

4. Feed a pet one piece of food at a time. Shoving down its throat does nothing for happy pet.

5. Turn growl OFF in groups unless pet is off tanking. Makes for a happy tank.

Quel'dorei: Intro to PvE Servers
I originally rolled a hunter named Ranii (now deleted) on this realm to check it out. I found a nice enough guild to start off with, and then The Guy and I ended up forming our own.

We got a crash course in running a guild, luckily my guy found a few good guides, so we knew what to expect, and we knew the kind of guild we wanted going into things; we wanted what we weren't finding - informative, helpful, and a place to retreat from the rampant immaturity that was out there.

The guild was sorely lacking on healers, so I shelved Ranii and rolled a BE paladin named Dione. I ran Dione to about 62, and then the realm opened up for realm to realm transfers (yes, I'd gotten in on the ground floor of a realm starting) so I brought Venari/Tzia over as a 60 and shelved Dione. I leveled Tzia to 70 on here, had a great time with most of the people I grouped with, had a few horrible runs of various instances, and learned everything I could as a hunter with those people. Most of them earned my respect, a few lost it, but I can look back at QD with mostly good memories.

QD taught me:
1. How to deal with a guild, manage one, and deal with anything that was thrown my way.

2. How to deal with other people, even when you have lost all respect for them, and to let go of good friends to make their own mistakes, but always leave the door unlocked if they want to come back.

3. No matter what happens, you know you've done your best, and when its time to move on, you do so without a backward glance.

Echo Isles: Welcome to the Alliance
I rolled a Draenei Hunter named Yazmin here because my cousin on my Dad's side of the family had an alliance paladin, and I figured I can burn a hunter to 70 far faster than he can a paladin. Sad thought is? We never got to play together. I ran into a few guilds that were great, a few that were terrible, and sorely missed the Concentrate and Contain method of the Horde with the Barrens. Every Alliance I've played since then has made me grateful for the Barrens. I also didn't feel like I could ask a question while playing alliance, even though I'd never played the side before, but I was lucky in the fact I was playing my favorite, addictive class so I wasn't a complete and total newbie out in the world.

1. Alliance needs a Barrens Chat... somewhere specific, not in five zones across the world.

2. I love the Barrens, one chat, easy to turn off while flying over!

3. I am Horde, through and through. For the Horde!

Moon Guard: RP and what I do for Friends
Here is where my other Tzia resides, as a Draenei hunter with a as of yet un-named black wolf. I'm in a guild with a good friend of mine from back in the day of playing an on line horse simulation. She also has a hunter, her daughter has a horde hunter, and now a 65 something priesty. That priest is scary good. Ree is the kind of friend I love playing with, I can giggle when she does something goofy, confide in her when I'm feeling down, and help her destroy mobs when she needs just a little bit more help doing something on her druid. And I get to RP a bit now and then, whenever I feel like it!

1. RP not that scary.

2. Playing with RL friends makes it so much better.

3. B is one of the best tanks I have ever seen... even if I can give him grief about dying in Stockades at level 70. :p

Summary
I know I'm addicted to hunter. I try and play other classes and miss the pets, or I miss the damage, or I miss the armor. But most of all I miss the satisfaction of knowing I just killed something with my pet and it didn't even touch me. My pets are my companions, my friends, my anchor. As Cait, over at One Among Many said a long time ago, "A hunter's pet is a part of the Hunter's heart. A warlock's pet is a page in their grimoire..." Its true. Every hunter I have had has had special pets, with a personality all their own. And the best thing? Each and every one uses or has used a bow.

The name and sentiment with which I originally decided the name remains: Have Bow, Will Travel!

Healer Protection : in the job description?

I'm wondering, after running with a few very, very, very bad hunters on my paladin in the past, do most hunters believe protecting the healer is in the job description?

As a hunter, I believe its part of my job when I'm in a group to watch out for the healer in case something goes wrong, a mob blind-sides us and goes for the squishy lil healer (trees and holy pallys included), or the tank has just too much on him or her at the time to deal with another threat. I believe that is where my job kicks in, sending the pet, with growl switched on to taunt the mob OFF the healer, onto the pet, which I can keep up with my heals, scaling back the DPS a bit just to make sure that the mob is on the pet, going to STAY on the pet, at least until the tank can get around to it.

I've done this in so many groups, and had so many healers tell me thank you. What the heck? I'm just doing my job. Is it because the first hunter I ever took lessons from (The Guy) was originally a warrior and that has set my stance as squishy protector? Or is it just that some hunters don't have the focus split capable to handle DPS, Pet, Trap, AND healer protection, while calling out breaking sheeps and lost saps, and Pats Incoming? Yes, I do all of that on a regular basis, while making sure I don't jump the tank in threat and my pet hasn't gone tearing off down the hall after something it shouldn't.

I'm literally tracking so many things at once that its normal for me... perhaps that's why I like trying to kite one thing, freeze another, pet on the third and fourth and something else just walked in? I feel alive while handling more mobs that I should... and I don't even have the luxury of Fear to help me out if things really go wrong.

Some have suggested its because I'm a girl that I can multi-task so well. I think that's a load of BS. My guy can track things just as well, and has slightly faster reaction times than I do. Of course, I re-arrange my keys every once in a while so I don't become completely bored and button mash happy... so that might have something to do with it. I can also split the vocals in any song down to one vocalist and sing with just that if I know the song well enough, I can also filter out all other insturments in a band to focus on just the guitar, or drums, or any other insturment, and I don't even need to know the piece to do that.

I wonder, how many other hunters do what I do, take on healer protection whenever they step into a group, its never asked for, but something you take on, because you can and because it will keep your group running smoothly?

Total Chaos

Any hunter that plays will agree there are periods of bordom followed by periods of utter chaos while playing. I can't count how many times Ruka or Xavi or Varuna has gotten me into trouble by chasing something down. Then they bring back five to eight friends. Yes, I know this is in part due to my inattention... I sometimes forget to watch where the pet is chasing or don't switch to that mob fast enough because I've got my hands full with two more.

Now? Add a warlock to the mix. Its just gotten worse, Fear + pets + more Fear + running mobs = Complete and Utter Chaos x2. The other night, The Guy and I were out and about, killing mobs on our warlock and hunter combo platter. Varuna went off after something, and I switched to his target to bring it down faster, figuring my hyena had everything under control. The Guy FEARED the thing right as I switched to it, it goes plowing off through a group of three mobs, needless to say- all mobs suddenly like him. I flip to check on Varuna... she's got four mobs on her heels + the one she had been chasing... somehow.

So we've got a total of eight mobs coming at us, my trap is on cool down, I'm almost Oom, and the pet is looking a little ragged around the edges... now where the heck is that voidy? Oh, its Dead... >.<

I blow a mana pot and make a few hasty promises to the Earth Mother and send Varuna after the one she'd previously been chewing on, just trying to kill something. It dies, I flip her to the next thing, pop Intimidation, glace at my traps as DoTs bloom on everything and fear goes off again... thanks hon. >.< My pet target goes flying off, luckily in a cleared direction... so I flip the overgrown weasel to something else that is bearing down on the Warlock, it stops pays attention to her, we kill it, the formerly feared mob is back, DoTs are still ticking, so my trap is useless and the mob goes running off again, so I pick on something else as a dotted mob drops at my feet. I hear a screech behind me, pivot, fire a conc shot, drop a trap and spin back to the mob I was previously on, the trap goes off behind me, bagged birdy.

Everything else dies around us through DoTs and Rain of Fire, then its the birdy's turn, carrion bird goes down fast, I'm completely oom and The Guy has about 200 left on his Lock. Sheer Carnage around us, nine mobs dead, my pet still alive, me oom, his pet dead. I sit down to drink while he starts destroying soul stones after summoning the blue berry back.

My mouse idly falls over one of the mobs we killed, a turtle... actually the turtle he feared a few times... its a level 35. We're level 30s. I slowly start mousing over everything else: 32, 34, 35, 33, 31... Yes, we just took on quite a few orange and red mobs... chaos and totally over powered PvE classes FTW!

Word Clouds and Cool Hunters

First off, thanks goes out to Green Hunter, who is on my notable blogs section. I was flipping through my WoW related blogs gearing up for another play session. Feel free to note the time stamp... yes, I am playing very, very early in the morning right now; or very, very late - depending on how you want to look at it.

Anyway, I hit Green Hunter's blog and came face to face with a word cloud by Wordle. I thought it was the coolest thing... so of course I had to pop in Have Bow and see what it gave me.

How cool is that?!

Now, however I'm not sure where the word Collins or Joan shows up in the blog. I've noticed the word in several different renderings of my cloud... guess I'll have to dig through my post history and see if I can uncover it.

In other news, I've created a little gadget off to the side listing my hunters... I will eventually get them linked up so that they can be tracked, if people wish to do so. As I write this I now notice I'm missing at least one major hunter off my list... my Deathwing Hunter, whom I just created yesterday.

Anyone that is familiar with my travels through WoW will remember that (QD)Tzia originally came off Deathwing and I swore I'd never go back... well guess again - I guess.

No, Tzia is not moving back to Deathwing, for one you cannot move a PvE character to a PvP realm. No, my guy is playing again. He insisted that we play on Deathwing even though I hate the sound of snapping bones and screaming lowbies with a passion (hey this IS a PvP realm). And I left because I was sick of being jumped by over-geared jerk offs, but no... if I want him to play its going to be Deathwing. Ugh. We've reached a compromise. I get whatever pet I want... no exceptions, none, nada. If I want a friggen Sporebat... I get a Sporebat. The other compromise (which was more to get me to play on Deathwing than anything) was we will be perma-grouped. He's rolled a blood elf priesty, I, as previously stated, rolled yet another hunter - this one a blood elf.

This hunter will not be a main by any means at any time in the foreseeable future. Right now she's level eight and I am foaming at the mouth... I want ten, I want my pet. The guy is currently at work, and we left them in Newbie Blood Elf Territory.
I will probably post a lil blip when she hits 10, with a screen-shot of what I hope will be her first and final pet.

Yes, if you haven't noticed yet, I can't seem to stick with one pet... even though I try my hardest. Something new and shiney always comes along... but let's see if this alt can actually stay with one pet all the way instead of jumping through five or twenty thousand before hitting 70... if that even happens.

Is she nuts?

This question has been asked several times by those that know me on WoW. The answer is invariably, "Of course. It's a hunter thing." I always smile at that and nod my head. There are hunters that want 'just the right pet'. No hunter of mine ever repeats currently held pets. I want a specific look for a pet, and I have the slot available? Somebody will pick up a new pet.

Diante (3x) of Quel'dorei has Armatu, the black RFK boar and Japhrimel, the black lion (Humar).

(QD)Tzia has Ruka, the Frostsaber Pridewatcher, Truffles, an Ashmane Boar; and Yikes, the Blackwind Sabercat.

Yazmin has Xavi, the brown RFK boar and Nova the white lion (Sian Rotam).

(MG)Tzia has Misha, a yellow maned boar from Westfall, and now Helki... who is the purpose of this post.

I'm nuts. I've managed to get to level 36, almost 37 with Misha. I want a Ghostpaw Alpha for my Helki... one issue... they are level 28. I've leveled up lower level pets before, cursed over it, but I've done it. See anything related to Yazmin and Japhrimel for proof!

But, I want a wolf, named Helki, California-based Native American tribal word meaning 'to touch' for reasons of sentimentality. On the original Tzia (QD) I tamed a Ghostpaw Alpha at 28 and brought it to 40 with me, then stupidly let it go. I had named her Helki. I want another one, and this one I will drag up to 70 with me by switching out the pets as I level. I know I can do it- even if it kills me.

The original Helki ran all of SM with me. It was me and the wolf, every single time I stepped into that instance. I want to try and avoid a cat... if I can on this hunter. The boar I won't side-step as a leveler, its one of the better pets out there in my oppinion for that task, but I want my wolf. And no other skin will do for me... so I guess its time for me to head off into Ashenvale, hunt down my new friend and go back to STV and start the wholesale slaughter of Mistvale Gorillas.

Why Mistvale Gorillas you ask? 1. They are not needed in any quest last I checked. 2 They are level 32-33, therefore an easy target to kill with a lower level pet. 3. They are skin-able. All around win-win situation... especially since I seem a bit stuck atm for leveling.

I hate the 30s did I mention that? Ah well, off to collect Helki and get down to business.

Guess whose back? With a barn yard too!

Yes, I'm back after a several month hiatus (un-announced of course) and playing another hunter on another server. Playing Alliance again, on an RP realm... Moon Guard. I'm on 'Guard because a really good real life friend of mine is playing there with her daughter and encouraged me to tag along. I accepted.

Let me say now that I am in no way, shape, or form an RPer... I have no freaking clue what I'm doing. At least when it comes to the RP aspect of it. When it comes to hunter? I know exactly what I'm doing... most of the time.

I took the name Tzia, again. So I now have a Horde (Quel'dorei) Tzia and an Alliance (Moon Guard) Tzia. Both, funnily enough, are in the same Battlegroup. So, if I run into any QD players who pause over the name, yes - it is me, and I am going to try my hardest to kick your butt.

(MG)Tzia, as I will refer to her from now on, is level 32, Draenei, and has a pig (Princess look) named Misha. She also has a little chicken Non-combat pet tagging along that she calls Harold. I went Stormwind Rep this time, and she is on the back of a black stallion.

I've jokingly said to my guild that I have a mini-barn yard, with Tzia in the lead. So far all personalities seem to mesh very well with mine, and they appreciate the joke of a mini-barn yard running around Azeroth.

This hunter is also goaled for 70, and my friend is leveling another hunter while I'm leveling up, and her daughter, who has a Horde 70 Hunter, is leveling a priest... and kicking my butt in the leveling department. Priests aren't supposed to do that!

Ah well, I'm back, I'm having fun and hopefully I will keep this blog a touch more up to date than I have in the past!

Some Days

You know the old Meridith Brooks Song? Pugging BF one day, then Ramps the next on Yazmin... let's just say that BF went much smoother.

The only one a lil bit slow in Blood Furnace was the rogue. He "intercepted" my trap target 3-4 times. The shaman I was running with got my side-tells mostly *headesk* while traps were accidentally being poisoned/intercepted by the rogue and goofing my timers up. Once we got through the message of "Trap IS Blue Square", things came off without a hitch... until we missed a stealthed rogue while I was setting a pull and it killed me, which resulted in our first full wipe.

Then the rogue disconnected and didn't come back, so we ended up calling the run at about half way... hey, we tried to work without the rogue, couldn't find anyone, it had taken my guild mate and I about an hour just to get that group together, so I'm glad we got as far as we did - even though my guild mate subbed himself out for me because he had already run the instance, they had one too many dps slots and he subbed out in favor of my having Crowd Control.

Hellfire Ramparts. Suposed to be easier than Blood Furnace. And it probably would have been if not for an idiot tank. Group makeup was a 70 Tankadin, a Holy Pally, a 70 Hunter, a Priest and Me. The Tankadin tried to tell me at 61, to drop a Snake Trap, even though I was fully capable of chain trapping. When I pointed out I wouldn't have it, he tried to claim he'd been talking to the 70, and refused to double chain trap. If both hunters are fully capable? WHY NOT?! I won't use the trap on my 70 with other hunters around if we are trapping things, because I'm pretty sure the snakes poison, which would goof any other hunter's trap target up.

Wouldn't suprise me if it weren't annoyed stress but my eyes started bugging out after a few pulls, litterally not wanting to focus on the computer screen. My DPS dropped way off, because I wasn't seeing correctly and after we managed to down the first boss the hunter and the tank announced they had Kara and had to leave. I hit Alt F4 and shut my computer down.

When your eyes don't want to see right, which makes you question where your mouse is, what your shot rotation is actually doing (fingers were over one too many for the rotation to work), and your send pet macro targets the wrong thing... its just time to get off the computer.

I'll save Blood Furnace and Ramps for another day I guess. Maybe I won't have to deal with dimwitted 70s... but maybe I should have realized that when I realized the tank was 70 and doing a "new to Outlands" instance?

If I say "run" RUN!

Every good hunter I know takes a careful stock of every situation they put themselves into, trying to see the angles, and what can go wrong - if it does, and tries to plan for it. Or, maybe, its just me.

I find myself watching everything, even while in the middle of an instance, I know where a mage's sheep is, where the sap target is, and dependant on which breaks first, I call it out, while DPSing, and trapping the targets I've been assigned, and managing the pet. I do it because I can. I also keep my tracking up - its been made much less confusing now that I can track hostile versus passive mobs. And, if things go wrong, I'm the first to throw my pet at whatever it is, to try and buy the group a bit more time to either run, or try and get the situation under control. I will even die before the healer when at all possible, to try and give the healer a bit more time... usually it results in a more favorable rez position for said healer- not always, but sometimes.

The only times I will cut and run are when I believe a situation is beyond the ken of the current group, not before. And if I'm running? Everyone feel free to follow the potenially screaming hunter from the room... we are in no way going to survive whatever Tzia is running from. Or, if I tell a group member to run? Please do it, I'm trying to buy you time. I can take a few hits more than a clothie can. I'd rather the clothie cut, run away, and let me die than us both dying.

Some have said I'd make a good warrior with my tendency to watch everything, and the willingness to throw myself at death. I don't know... I like my hunter and all the control it gives me. Its something to think about at any rate.

Hunter Survives It All

Aspect of the Hare had an amusing post yesterday, and something pretty similar happened to me as well. I was on Yazmin, and looking to run something, since I couldn't find jack on Tzia yesterday. So, I joined the LFG channel, with ZF as my dungeon of choice. Caught a message of "Tank and Healer looking for 3More", so I said I'd go, we apparently attracted a mage, and I suggested my guild leader while he was on his rogue. We ran it, almost wiped once, lost the mage, subbed in a warlock and just had fun.

While we still had the mage a 3 pull turned into a 6 pull due to a 3 mob pat landing on us. I know my comment to the group was quite simply, "Oh shit, 3 inc!" And it was.

The mage did a reactionary Frost Nova, for which I am still grateful for. That slowed everything down, and I sent my boar after the lizard that had been part of the three pull, and threw down a trap, which froze another, taking the 6 pull down to 4. We managed to kill one as the mage died, then we lost the healer as my trap broke and the lizard died.

We lost my guild leader in there somewhere as well, and it got to the point of the warrior cutting and running, to try and draw stuff off me and the healer... who had already died. We were down to three things, me focusing on one with the boar, the other two chasing the warrior. I think the warrior either A: made it out, or B: just got really lucky because the two things came back to me right as I was killing the third thing, avoiding flame totems and trying to deal with two things landing on me at the same time.

Most of the last two were a blur of flying fingers, button mashing, and re-directing my pet a few times. But, when it was all done, I was oom, the boar was gasping for breath and bleeding all over the place, but everything we'd pulled was dead.

I looked down at the chat log as I sat to drink and saw, "Heal Yaz first, then rez us." from the warrior. I chirped back that I was fine and everything was dead... that was a good feeling... hunter took on 6 and survived. :D

Why a Hunter

This post is in reference to the Aspect of the Hare post of today...

I know exactly how she feels. Without my pet, I'm partially freaking out, worrying I'm going to get squashed by something higher up, or just plain bigger than I am. Taming Humar was one of those... um... eek? moments. Tall Striders can look scary if you accidentally run into one without your pet next to you, and its the middle of the night and you are in foreign territory. Wing clip and raptor striking it to death is beside the point. Once I had Humar- now Japhrimel for Yazmin- I had her switch back to Xavi the boar and continued questing.

I grabbed Japh for Yaz because I have never before had the black male lion as a pet. It was an opertunistic grab, so I went for it, and I am very happy with my choice. Japhrimel comes from a book series I might have mentioned before by Lilith Saintcrow. Japh in the book is a demon with black silky hair and glowing reactive-green eyes. Sounds like my lion to me! I know that there will be TONS of Humar clones running around Shatt when I get to that point in the game - heck I see 1-4 every time I'm in Stormwind checking the AH, but I like the look of the cat; therefore I'm going to keep it!

Tzia has Ruka, a Frostsaber Pridewatcher out of Winterspring as her main pet. Ruka and BRK's Hobbes apparently look alike, and Ruka tells me she is honored to be from the same mold that Hobbes is in, and is trying to learn from the great cat's footprints. I picked up Ruka before I began reading BRK frequently. I was a MM hunter for leveling but loved the look of the Pridewatcher and had ear-marked the pet for Tzia when she was still just a level 10.

I love the looks of both of my cats. But then, I have two little furry friends in real life - Melody, the silver tabby; and Harmony, the black ball of fluff with yellow eyes. Pets are a large part of the hunter class, in real life? The pets are a big part of it. I love it when Harmony wants to chase toy mice up and down the hall, or when Melody walks over and flops down for a belly rub, or crawls up on my husband's moniter to regally stare down at us before dozing in the heat from the moniter.

Hunter, money, and some hunter blog

Well, Yazmin dinged 50! And I ran her off into Searing Gorge to pick up a chest piece, since I was still wearing something from the mid 30s and it was leather... eww. Mail, with agility, stamina, and intelect. Should last me for a bit of time, I hope. Only a few more levels to outlands.

I have also been back-reading several diffrent hunter related blogs. I ran into an old post off Bremm's Musings declaring that outlands should not be attempted before 60... just due to the fact that a person will have a harder time with it.

I find, from previous experience with my Troll hunter Tzia and her pet kitty, Ruka, that 58 was just fine. But then, I am also a bit picky when it comes to gear and was able to conserve gold and had enough on dinging 70 to buy my flyer... so money is not an issue for me, and that I remember was one of the major problems with this person's post.

I figure Yazmin will have an easier time in outlands than her horde predecessor. The reasons for that being:

1. She has a tanking pet, not a dps pet.
2. I already know what I will face, prior knowledge will keep her alive.
3. Fel Reavers have an impact term - hallelujah!
4. I will be grinding for money, not questing as much... want epic land mount asap.

Yazmin is 50, as I stated earlier... she is still in a few pieces of leather - Triprunner Dungurees, some agi/stam leather shoulders, and I think that's it now that the chest piece is out of the way... but her gear is holding up, as is Xavi the boar, who got his updates of bite, gore, and charge - still needs to hit 50 before I can give the lil armored piggy a better growl.

I'm still a bit upset with the AH. Echo Isles Alliance prices are insane in my oppinion, but I do remember the fact of supply and demand... there are tons of hunters out there and a very very tiny portion of gear that is good for hunters, therefore demand is high, supply sucks, so pricing is in the stupidly rediculous range.

It just means I will be hoping for good gear to drop over buying it, unless I can find really good items for cheap... and when I do, believe me, those pieces won't remain on the Auction block longer than it takes me to click 'buyout'!

Have Bow, Will Travel

Welcome to the first post of Have Bow. This will be a WoW-related hunter-specific (I hope) rambling spot for me. I've played hunter for a little over two years and recently rolled a new hunter on a new server, and on the other side of the faction line.

You will most likely hear about some of the blunders I've made as Tzia, my horde 70 hunter on Quel'dorei; and of some of the ones I make as Yazmin, my alliance hunter on Echo Isles. Yes, I have two hunters, each one on diffrent sides of the faction line, great people on both sides, and both servers!

I'm having a blast leveling with Yazmin. I'm also having fun with Tzia, who is my 70 raiding hunter, even though I'm taking a break from raiding at this time. Miss my raid buds, but they need to get some other people into raiding, so I'll sit out for a few more weeks.

And if I royally screw up with either hunter? I'll post about it, just so anyone reading can get a laugh. ^_^
